Pulse Health's Science Advisory Board is made up of global leaders in Exhaled Breath Condensate (EBC), free radicals, assays and diagnostic tools.

Board members are:

Terence Risby, PhD

Professor, Johns Hopkins University

Dr. Terence Risby pioneered the non-invasive use of breath biomarkers as indicators of tissue injury and disease and published studies on their impact on oxidative stress. His laboratory has developed breath markers for biosynthesis of cholesterol, liver function and disease, and nutritional status. More recently, he has initiated studies that are using his developed biomarkers of tissue injury to investigate the effects of exposure to environmental toxicants.

Andrew King

Expert, Engineering/Device Manufacturing

As CEO, Mr. King set Icon Time Systems on a path of heavy growth. While CEO, Icon Time Systems was ranked by the Portland Business Journal as one of Oregon's fastest growing businesses five years in a row, ranking 23rd in 2003, 25th in 2004, 75th in 2005, and most recently 33rd in 2006 and 2007. In 2008, Icon Time Systems was listed as Oregon's 9th fastest growing technology company by the Portland Business Journal, and has been ranked on the top half of Inc. Magazines fast 5000.

Along the way, Mr. King has served on the Board of Directors of the Business Enterprise Center – an incubator for startup technology companies in Corvallis, Oregon. Within his field he has served as Education Chairman and Board member of the National Time And Equipment Association, the primary trade group for his industry. While serving with the NTEA, Mr. King was the first vendor member to achieve voting rights, and be asked to remain on the board for two consecutive terms. Mr. King also participates, through Focus Point Consulting, in a CEO group that advises each other on business development and strategic planning.

While at Icon Time Systems he guided expansion into mass-market retail channels, lead the movement of development and production to off-shore resources and ultimately guided the sale of Icon Time Systems to Paychex, Inc. (NASDAQ: PAYX).

Mr. King's work has resulted in two patents issued by the US Patents and Trademark office, with several others pending approval. He also actively serves on the Board of Advisors to Plant Protectors, a startup company manufacturing green products for the garden supply industry and NASEA, an alternative wave energy startup. In his role of guiding development teams, Mr. King has successfully lead the development of more than 20 products from design to distribution.

Jim Ingle, PhD

Professor Emeritus, Oregon State University

Dr. James D. Ingle is a Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at Oregon State University. He has worked over 40 years in analytical and environmental chemistry with expertise in spectrochemical analysis based with absorption, fluorescence, and chemiluminescence detection and atomic spectrometery, portable and miniature analyzers and sensors, on-line preconcentration techniques, microfluidics, and miniature flow analyzers. He is known worldwide for his graduate textbook and reference titled "Spectrochemical Analysis" and near 100 publications.

David Chernoff, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Chernoff combines the perspective of a practicing clinician with decades of biopharma industry experience. His medical practice has centered around infectious diseases, with a concentration on AIDS research. He is a recipient of the National AIDS Caregiver Award from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which recognized his contribution to the development of viral load assays used to monitor disease progression and response to therapy in AIDS patients. Dr. David Chernoff spent two years as an entrepreneur-in-residence and one year as an operating partner at the venture firm TPG, where he was actively involved in due diligence and in incubating new companies.

Massimo Corradi, MD

University of Parma, Italy

Dr. Corradi is recognized as the world leader in analyzed aldehydes in breath, and is considered the world leader in research on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. He is the foremost expert in this area on the international Exhaled Breath Condensate (EBC) Taskforce. Dr. Corradi received his Degree in Medicine and Surgery with honor from the University of Parma with Boards in Respiratory and Occupational Medicine. He has 82 publications to his credit.

Ruthie Harper, MD

Founder, Nutritional Medicine Associates

Dr. Harper is a top expert in the formulation of scientifically proven nutritional compounds. She is a Board Certified Internist who has spent many years developing her unique vision for helping people achieve health and wellness. Dr. Harper has been a practicing physician since 1988 and founded her own medical practice - Nutritional Medicine Associates - in 1999. It has since become one of the most successful and innovative of its kind. Dr. Harper is a passionate, public advocate of the role of nutrition in creating healthy, happy living. She is a regular public speaker nationally on health, wellness, anti-aging, sports nutrition, and skincare. She is also a research associate at the University of Texas at Austin where she is involved in ongoing nutritional research. After completing medical school, Dr. Harper finished her residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.

Steven Mastin, PhD

Expert, Advanced Diagnostics

Dr. Mastin is a leading expert in the development and science behind advanced diagnostics, as well as intellectual property protection associated with such development. He has developed numerous clinical assays, including a widely accepted free radical test. Dr. Mastin has held the position of Senior Licensing Executive at the Oregon Health & Science University, as the Senior Director of Diagnostics at Cetus Corporation (now part of Chiron) where his group developed PCR technology and at Microbiological Associates (now BioReliance) where he helped redirect that organization into biotech safety testing.

He has also held research positions at Los Alamos National Laboratory, New Mexico and academic positions at Washington University in St. Louis and at UCLA. Dr. Mastin is a graduate of Cal Tech and UCLA.

Bhairavi Parikh, PhD

Expert, Advanced Diagnostics

Dr. Parikh has deep domain expertise in the development of medical biosensors. She has designed and developed a sensor for the measurement of therapeutic inhaled nitric oxide and led the instrumentation team for medical device clinical studies while at the University of Massachusetts Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. She was also involved in new product development at Natus Medical. She has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from a joint program with the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and University of Massachusetts Medical Center. She also earned an MS in Biological Engineering from the University of Connecticut and a BS in Biochemistry from the University of New Hampshire.

Raymond Akers, PhD

CEO, Akers Biosciences

Dr. Akers is a leading inventor of diagnostic tools, including rapid testing for cholesterol, DNA and alcohol. He has over 25 years of experience in the diagnostics industry having co-founded Drug Screening Systems, Inc., a publicly listed company, in 1987 and Akers Medical Technology Inc. in 1984. He was chief executive officer and vice president of research and development of Drug Screening Systems, Inc. until the sale of the company in 1989 and served as president and chief executive officer of Akers Medical Technology Inc. until 1987. Dr. Akers holds a Ph.D. in Neurochemistry from Northwestern University.

Peter Barnes, PhD

National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College of London

Dr. Barnes has done extensive study on Exhaled Breath Condensate and is a member of the EBC Taskforce. Dr. Barnes holds patents in the UK for methods of diagnosing, monitoring, and treating pulmonary disease. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2007, and is the first respiratory researcher to be elected to that post in more than 150 years. Dr. Barnes has won numerous awards for his scientific achievements including the UK's most cited scientist for the 1990's.
